New methane vaccine venture to be established
AgriZeroNZ is establishing a new venture to accelerate the development of a methane vaccine for ruminant animals.
Kiwi scientists from AgResearch have been pioneering research to develop a methane vaccine for more than 15 years, with funding from the New Zealand government, New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre (NZAGRC) and the Pastoral Greenhouse Gas Research Consortium (PGGRC).
The new venture will bring together the technology, intellectual property, team and funding to accelerate development and help deliver a world-first solution to market.
It follows an earlier commitment by AgriZeroNZ of up to $1.5 million into the methane vaccine development programme while it explored ways to accelerate it.
AgriZeroNZ is investing an additional $1 million to set up the new venture which will operate as a standalone entity.
